April Kelsey - A. K.

April Kelsey is a writer specializing in topics related to politics, nutrition, and academic writing. Her writing career started in college as a journalism major when she worked as a student reporter for her college newspaper, the University of Memphis Daily Helmsman, publishing 26 articles and an editorial. After studying abroad for a year in Japan, she changed her major to English and enjoyed even more success as a writer. She graduated summa cum laude from the U of M in 2007, having received several scholarships and awards for her academic essays, including the Exceptional Thesis Award for her undergraduate thesis on eighteenth-century British satire.

As a writer, April is most passionate about helping others in the craft. In 2008, she worked as a tutor in one of the nation's top college writing centers at The Citadel Military College of South Carolina in Charleston, where she developed her own worksheets and a 40-page grammar guide on punctuation and sentence structure. She has worked at other schools and centers as well, educating hundreds of students of all ages in the art of writing. Now, with a busy home life that includes a toddler and a military spouse, April is returning to her journalistic roots, publishing articles on topics she is most passionate about in hopes of educating readers and drawing attention to vital issues in society.

April someday hopes to become a published author, and has completed a fiction manuscript. She also wants to return to college to earn a Master's in either teaching or professional writing - perhaps both - and is considering creating a website to help college writers. When she's not writing, she spending time with her husband and son at home in Newport News, Virginia. Her hobbies include reading, decorating cakes, and making beaded jewelry. Readers can receive updates on her latest articles through Twitter or read more about her personal life on her blog.
